The NSW Health Pathology Awards: Caring, connecting and pioneering - for all of us celebrate the extraordinary achievements of our people and our services.  Now in its second year, “The Pathies” shine a light on our 5,000-plus staff who go to extraordinary lengths by caring, connecting and pioneering for all of us.

In these uncertain times, we pause to celebrate the essential role our staff have played during the ongoing response to COVID-19, bushfires, floods and droughts - as well as in maintaining vital health and justice systems.

From our blood collectors and clinicians to our couriers and scientists, our staff are curious and passionate about making a difference through innovation and excellence.
These Awards reflect our commitment to creating better health and justice systems, as well as highlighting our colleagues who promote the organisation’s RITE values – respect, integrity, teamwork and excellence.

Finalists

Our team of judges across six panels had the very challenging task to narrow the 116 excellent entries down to a handful of finalists across ten categories. Each judging panel remarked that they wanted to recognise everyone for going above and beyond to keep our communities safe during the pandemic, as well as for showing the true clinical and scientific value of our public pathology and forensic services.

Award categories

We are maintaining the existing categories and criteria which have been developed to align to our purpose, aspirations, RITE values and our Strategic Plan Towards 2025.

We know our staff care as much for the environment as they do for their patients, so this year we’ve also added a new award – Environment Sustainability.

Key Dates

Entries open: 15 March 2021
Entries close: 30 April 2021
Judging: May 2021
Finalists announced: June 2021
Celebration event: 28 July 2021

At this stage we are planning for a face-to-face event on 28 July at Newcastle NEX. We are also exploring ways to broadcast the event so everyone can be involved and included. While details are still to be finalised, staff will be encouraged to host their own COVID-safe, glamorous ‘virtual watch parties’ to celebrate and support their colleagues virtually.

Of course, we will be agile and follow the public health advice at the time in case the event needs to go 100% virtual. More on this to come!
