Genomics Clinical Stream

We've established a genomics steering committee which has representation from all the networks and relevant disciplines (genetics, microbiology, haematology and anatomical pathology) as well as two representatives from the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The group meets monthly and is providing a forum for scientists, pathologists and clinicians who have a strong interest in the field.

The aim is to work together to achieve statewide coordination of genomics and standard practices.

Benefits

Adopting a coordinated approach to genomic medicine will bring about a better and expanded service to patients.  This will also result in a more efficient service that saves patients and the public health system money.

Actions underway

The steering committee has held four meetings and one genomics workshop since May 2015.

The workshop (which included a broader representation with 35 participants from the various disciplines) provided valuable information which will be used to inform the genomics five year strategic plan.  This plan will be the cornerstone of our statewide genomics initiative and will set the direction and pace for change in this rapidly advancing area of clinical application.
